Hands On Math

This week we our hands have been busy during math. Using these base ten blocks, students have been showing my different ways to make numbers up to 100. In this activity below, students were building towers with their 10's rods. They then had to compute how many individual cubes were in their towers by counting by 10's. This was way more fun than a worksheet right?

Day 4: The Fun Continues...

Day 4 started with a bang! We made lots of words with Alphabet Cheez-its, then capped it off with full bellies as we ate the learning tools!!!

Later in the day we answered the question, "What is math?" in our math journals. This year the plan is to do lots of math through journaling. It invites a higher level of thinking and provides me with a visual representation of student understanding. I think these first journal entries show me that I have some great math students.

Today we had a blast learning how to be good speakers. Ask your kids to show you our body movements for the 3 key points to remember when speaking in front of a group.

Before recess students were using our ActivExpressions to text their answers to the board. WOW! They are so tech savvy. I was impressed!

This afternoon we celebrated our school wide theme, "Lights, Camera, Action!" by making sunglasses fit for only the brightest super stars!
