Johnny Appleseed Eve

These are just a few of the sites I captured today as I was leaving the room. They have worked so hard! I am so proud of how they have memorized every word! Cannot wait for them to show off tomorrow. The 7th annual Johnny Appleseed Play starts at 9:00am! Sir Read-A-Lot's Book Fair

This week, our librarian Mrs. Graham and her assistant Mrs. Coats put on an incredible book fair! The kids have loved shopping on and off there all week. There was a medieval theme so knights guarded the entrance to the castle of books Sir Read-A-Lot's book fair!

Mrs. Graham and Mrs Coats did a GREAT job!!! Many thanks for an awesome week of fun!

To close out the week, the library held "Hats On To Reading" day and encouraged everyone to wear a crazy hat! We love a dress up day in my class! 

Pack Up!

Every day I try to show off the cool things we are doing or learning about in class. Today I thought you would enjoy a glimpse of our normal, every day, pack up routine. Every student has a job that gets our class ready for the next day, and they are very self sufficient during this time. I don't even have to tell them what to do. They just do it! I love to just sit back and watch how they carry out their daily routines. It makes me so proud!

Johnny Appleseed Preview

Here is a sneak peek of our classroom play about Johnny Appleseed. We will present the show in the classroom on Tuesday the 25th. Parents, your invitations are coming home today! After the play we will make apple turnovers! We sure hope you will plan to attend! RSVP soon!!!

Guest Blogger: Ms. Hill

My name is Ms. Hill and I am a senior at USC Upstate.  At the beginning of September I was honored to be placed in Mr. Dearybury's second grade classroom at Woodland Heights Elementary School for my clinical two experience.  I have enjoyed my time with him and his students.

Today I taught a social studies lesson, dressed as Purplicious for story character book day.  After we talked about maps, compasses, and cardinal directions, we went on a scavenger hunt through the school looking for a Purplicious surprise.  We had so much fun and I am so proud of each student!

I have had so much fun in Mr. Dearybury's second grade this semester and have learned so much from him.  I can't wait to have my own classroom this time next year!

Our Favorite Things About WHES

Finally, after a few technology glitches, our Movenote movies are finished. Students were asked to select 3 of their favorite people, places, or things at our school. Then they ventured out into the building to take photos of their ideas. Once they captured their pics, students wrote about why they selected each picture. After writing, they had to craft a video intro and closing. We need to work a bit on closings, but the intros were great! This was a great writing organizational tool, and I recommend using it at all grade levels. This was our first try with Movenote, and I am very pleased with how they turned out! Great job class!

Skype: Mrs. Beck's First Grade Class

Today our class was able to share all of our class songs with Mrs. Beck's first grade class in New Jersey! We had such a great time connecting with her class through song. I played piano and the class taught her students about the 7 continents, and greater than less than with our music. We also got them excited about reading with our Frozen parody, "Do You Want to Read a Story". Ethan took the solo on the 3rd verse and did a fantastic job!!! So proud of the way her represented our class this morning. The pic below was taken on the New Jersey end as her class watched. How cool is it that a 2nd grade in SC could teach a 1st grade in NJ? We closed with our now favorite song, "Marvelous Things"! I would say this morning was pretty marvelous!
