Farmer's Day 2013

Who knew so many years ago when the Cavs and the Vikings played football, that a fun annual tradition would occur for so many kids? I LOVE FARMER'S DAY! The kids had a blast today and so did their teacher! We started the day with photo ops at the welcome display up front. We had a hayride thanks to Mrs. James' husband, Farmer Dan. We played farm themed games thanks to Coach Henderson, and just had a fun time being together all day long! Lunch outside was great and all of your kiddos were perfect! I am plumb tuckered out, but it was sooooo worth it!

Dance Class With Ms. Lee

I love that our school has dance class. The kids absolutely love it. Here are some pics from our first class of the year. We go every Thursday. We do take our shoes off so our feet might come home just a tad dirty, but man is it worth it.

Team Spell

Who said spelling practice had to be boring?? This high paced, teamwork required, hands-on game brings so much excitement to our room.

Here's what you do. Give each group a set of alphabet cards. Have them lay the cards face up all around the group. Use a "wild" card to be a duplicate letter when needed. Like an extra p in apple. Next, call out a word from your word wall or weekly spelling list and watch the teamwork kick in. "I have a d... I have the g... Quick, here's the o!" "We got it we got it!" My kids LOVE IT!!! Finally have them reset the cards for the next word, but don't talk during a reset because you can lose your cards!

Read For The Record

Today WHES, along with 2 million plus other students, participated in the national "Read for the Record" event hosted by Jump Start. We read the story of Otis, by Loren Long, on the same day as millions of other students in hopes to break a world record. I'd say we did it... Don't you agree?

You can read more about the event at their website. http://www.jstart.org/campaigns/read-record

Here are some pics from our time listening to the story. We will forever love OTIS!!!

Hands On Math

Math is a lot easier to understand when you have blocks... And it's way more fun!
